In this tutorial, we are going to add a new item into our skills area, and then we are going to manage that particular skill. So to add an item, just go right over here to that button, click on it, and you would simply enter in the name of the item here, and then you select the associated tag. So for example, this particular skill is really useful for my technical competency, but guess what? Maybe I have another skill that I think this would be useful for. And so I’ll just select both skills, both tags, excuse me, and hit add, save item. And now my item has been saved. If I go over here and I search for double item, you’ll see it right there. It basically indicates that this pedal skill item has two tags associated technology skills as well as technical competency. Speaker 1 (00:51): So what’s the next thing we can do here? Of course, we can click on our network security essentials skill. Notice we don’t have any users assigned to this particular skill. So of course what we can do is we can assign users. So click on add user. And basically what we’re doing at this point is saying, Hey look, if you are in, say I can search for a particular individual, say I’ll search for this individual. Alright, so if you are cor, I need Corin to be in this skill, I’ll just go ahead and select their name. And then I’ll say, look for this skill, I’m going to give Corin 50 points out of a hundred. You can put in the reason for this useful for advancement. Alright? And then if you want to, you can use the advanced options. This is very important because guess what? Speaker 1 (01:43): Now you can actually indicate how important the scale is to this individual and you can actually indicate here what you need to achieve at the various levels to proceed. So let’s say for this particular skill, I’m going to drop it back down to say a 65. So you get up to 65 points, we’ll consider you intermediate, and of course 65 and above, you will consider you as an advanced user. And I’ll just hit save all. So now we’ve added Corinne, we’ve added our skills level, we’ve indicated the importance. And of course, as you can see here, we have entered in the value in terms of a manual entry. The other thing we can do here is we can go over to the roles tab right over here and we can say, look, this scale is going to be useful for people that are in a particular role. Speaker 1 (02:32): So let me just see if I have, alright, so let’s say a quality assurance person or maybe a IT developer. This could be super useful for them. And again, as you can see, you can change the weight based on what you want to do. You can change the scale level here and basically hit save item. So this is super important because the third level is going to be courses. So you want to have anybody that completes a particular course and is in this particular role be able to get skills points towards this. How do you do that? Well, here’s how you do that. I’m going to go over to my courses tab here and I’m actually going to search for a cybersecurity course that I have if I can only find it. Alright, so I’m going to search for a cybersecurity course. There we go. Speaker 1 (03:24): There’s a cybersecurity course. I’ll click on it and here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go over to my setting tab and I’m going to go over to the skill setting. And guess what I’m going to do? Instead of using attach new skills, I’m going to use attach new roles. Basically what I’m telling the system is, hey, if you are in this role, so remember we said this was for IT folks, if you are in this role and you complete this course, we are going to award you 60%. Now let’s do 55, right? So let’s do 55% towards your skills attribution. So now our users that are in the IT developer role that go into this course, they can either self-enroll or they could be assigned to the course. Doesn’t matter. Once they go into this course and they complete this course, they will get 55%. Speaker 1 (04:16): So this is how cool this bundle feature is. And let’s just say, well, one of the things that I want to do is go into my users and see who are users in that IT role. So I’ll go right over here and oh, I see that I have four users. So any of these users complete this course. Guess what? They will get that skills attribution. Now here’s a cool thing about this. If say I want users that are in a particular role to be able to solve a role in this particular course, how will I do that? Well, that’s actually very easy. I’m going to go right over here and I see that this particular user is in a group. Now you can create an ad hoc group for this or you can use one of your existing groups, but I’m just going to say, you know what? Speaker 1 (05:06): The Blueray team or Blueray team, Blueray group right here is a great group and they’re made up mostly of my IT folks. So guess what I’m going to do? I’m going to make this course now open enrollments. And that basically means that folks in that particular group can go and self enroll. And once they self enroll, guess what? I’ve already mapped it to give those skills points. So now I know that those folks that are in that group that do self-enroll. So you see what I’m doing here? I’m limiting the self-enrollment for this course only to Blue Ray. Now, I could make it open to everybody, but what I’m basically saying is that if you’re a member of this group and you go enroll in this course yourself, you don’t have to wait for us to assign it to you and you complete this course, guess what happens? Speaker 1 (05:57): We will actually give you 55% points towards your skills. So remember how we got this thing set up? We will give you 55 points towards that skill. And pretty much that’s how you get the ball rolling and ensuring that your users are actually going to be able to earn the relevant skills based on their role. And essentially you can either assign relevant trainings to them, they can have trainings that they themselves enroll in. They can have OJT entries that are relevant for this particular particular skill. Or as we saw, you can actually use the manual entry to be able to give them points based on something, a conference that they’ve attended, something that they’ve done to earn that, those particular skills points. So as usual, if you have any questions about this or any of the features in the system, please do not hesitate to contact us.
