In this quick tutorial, we will take a look at the forum system, um, how to access forum categories, how to post, how to edit, how to see forums, uh, and posts from other users in your organization. To get started. Let’s go to the forums tab at the top. Now, please note forums can be by invitation. Others are open-ended, so if you do have an account, you click on forums and there’s nothing there. It’s probably because all of the forums in your organization are by invitation only. Okay. But if you do have access to forums, you will see them listed in the forums section. So I have five categories or forums that I belong to. Um, I’m going to check out the company, uh, security forum. Now I can add a new topic. There’s already somebody talking about, let’s talk about security. I can say some like, um, I can start a new topic. So I’ve started a topic on cyber policy or I can join an existing conversation. So let’s talk security. I have a Welborn. Started a conversation. John chimed in. I can reply to that to, to, to the first post. Uh, and for example, we can start with, all right, so I’ll just put this something there to get a conversation going. You can see how I’m quoting a previous poster. It again, this is one area that you can make use of informal learning. Okay. So you might participate, you might be invited to participate and it’s all good. Go in and chime in. If you want to see, for example, posts from this user, just click on their name and you would see the post that they have made. Super easy, uh, to do. And so check the forums area out. Uh, you might sometimes have, uh, what we call a discussion area within your course. It all depends on whether or not that is something that’s activated. So for example, in this money laundering course here I have a discuss area. It is sort of like the forum except that here you have some parameters. So for example, you as an end user can post a private chat and need to do, all right. So this is basically a private chat that only goes to your instructor. It doesn’t go to everybody. So the difference, for example, between the forums right here and for example, the, the um, the discussion board that we just looked at right here is that the discussion board one only belongs within one course that you have been assigned to. And within the discussion board, you do have control. So you don’t have to post public conversations if you choose to. You definitely can make public posts just like you can within the forum. But you can also do private posts that only go to your instructor. They will reply only you would see that reply. So a, just a way to engage you in this effort.
