How to use Webhooks

Hello and welcome to eLeaP. In this tutorial, we are looking at the webhooks feature in the eLeaP LMS.

To get to this you will need to be an admin. And so you’ll go to the gear icon and then click on the webhooks sub tab over there. Webhooks are basically commands that the system is going to run and provide notifications, alerts, and any other actions that you want to another system. So a popular use case for webhooks is, for example, notifying our Slack instance when folks have performed certain actions in the LMS.

Okay, so how do we get that set up? Well, you need two things. You need the integration URL for whatever system you want the web hooks to fire to. And then of course you need to select whatever action. So for example, I want a webhook to fire off upon a course completion, and I want it to fire off to a Slack instance, for example.

So of course I’ll click and save this, and then of course I’ll go into my Slack instance and configure all of the settings there in terms of the channel and what have you for this action to be posted or sent.

Note that there are all kinds of actions here, so feel free to scroll through to select whatever actions you want. For example, if you want a quiz fail action to prompt a webhook, you certainly can set that up. So go through these and select whatever actions you want to have sent to your third party system

This is what it looks like if you do that. I’ll go ahead and make this a little bigger. So I’ll just give you some rundowns. So what this is telling us is that, for example, this user has a completion right here. This user self-enrolled in a course. This user self-enrolled in the learning path. This user was assigned to an event. So those are some of the actions that are happening through the use of the webhook system
