In this tutorial, we want to explore the self-enrollment courses concept. What is self-enrollment? Well, it is where you decide that instead of having to assign every single last course in your system, you would rather give your users a chance to enroll in content that they are interested in. To do that, it’s very simple. You simply click on the settings tab. Now, within the general settings of the course, you have the self-enrollment line right there. What you want to do is toggle that to their on position. Alright? Now you do have an option to have self-enrollment be open to all users, or you can select specific user groups. Alright? So what this does is it allows you the flexibility to say, you know what? This is a great course, but I really think that this should be something that is open to my mid-level managers. So what we want to do is instead of opening it up to everybody, I might open it up to a few user groups that I have in my system. And what that does is it basically gives you the chance of one, providing self-enrollment capabilities, but then restricting who can actually have access to this. So it kind of works in both ways where you have the best of all worlds by giving the option to self-enroll to all users, but at the same time have the ability to restrict it if you want to do that. And so simply select the user groups that you want to restrict this to, if that’s what you want to do. Again, you don’t have to do this. You can pretty much take out the user groups and make it available to all users and lock that in. Hit save general settings, and that pretty much takes care of it. Alright, so self enrollment is great. Use it of course, wisely because if there’s content that you don’t want to have people have the ability to enroll in then you certainly don’t want to utilize the self-enrollment piece there. But definitely make sure that you give it a go because it does expand the capabilities and really frankly, gives you a chance to empower your teams to be able to go out and find content that is relevant to them without having to wait for you to enroll.
